Since its founding in 2009, the Mitral Foundation has been a driving force in advancing the understanding of mitral valve disease and promoting mitral valve repair techniques. The Mitral Foundation Center is the educational cornerstone of the Mitral Foundation.
The Mitral Foundation leads a national initiative to identify and promote Mitral Valve Repair Reference Centers in the United States through a recognition award program. The Mitral Valve Repair Reference Center Award enables patients to make informed choices about the team they are trusting to perform their procedure.
Our medical missions do more than just help people. By working with local teams, the Mitral Foundation also helps develop regional expertise around the world.
Learn about our work developing realistic, interactive 3D computer generated models, along with synthetic valves for hands-on training. Our series of physician roundtables are the focus of visiting professorships. Over 500 surgeons from 50 countries have taken part in our reconstructive valve surgery workshops. Named after Stanley Schlesinger, the scholarship has helped advance physician training in the developing world.
